Opening Hours

Northumberland Archives (Woodhorn) – Wednesday-Friday 10am-4pm 

First Saturday of the month – 10am-4pm

Berwick upon Tweed Record Office Wednesdays and Thursdays 9.30am-12:45pm and 2pm to 4.45pm

You no longer have to book to visit us. However, if you would like to look at original documents at Berwick Archives, you do need to let them know in advance. You can either email or book on Eventbrite [link]

Registration 

Northumberland Archives is a member of the Archives Card scheme. Details of the scheme can be found here – https://archivescard.com/. You can begin your registration process online before you visit us.

Rules and Regulations

Only pencils to be used in the Study Centre. No bags (including handbags), can be taken into our Study Centre. Secure lockers are provided for your use. To read the complete rules please follow this link.

Using the Study Centre

You can look at microfilm, paper catalogues and, transcripts in the Study Centre. They are on open shelves and you are welcome to help yourself. Library stock can be pre-ordered from the Local Studies collection (https://northumberland.spydus.co.uk/) and viewed in the Study Centre at Woodhorn. Original documents are ordered by filling in a document request form and Archive staff will retrieve your item from our strongrooms. It is always a good idea to have a look at our catalogues [link] in advance so you can work out what you would like to see before you visit us.

Using Documents

When using the Study Centre we expect that you use pencils in order to protect the items in our care.  The use of laptops and ipads is permitted. If you would like a copy of an item please ask a member of staff who can advise on copying options. We do allow use of digital cameras on some classes of record – staff will be pleased to advise further.  Follow this link to find out more.

No smoking, eating or drinking is permitted in the Study Centre.
